Associate Marriage and Family Therapist LMFT #121911
Sheryl has been seeing clients at the Community Counseling Center of Elk Grove since 2012. She graduated with her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Western Seminary and also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling and Psychology with an emphasis on the Bible and Theology. Sheryl is consequently committed to incorporating spiritual direction into her counseling process. She operates from the perspective that the further away we stray from our created identity, the more dis-comfort, dis-content, and dis-ease we experience as a result, and this unrest manifests in all the relationships and arenas of our lives.
With this emphasis, Sheryl looks at counseling through the lens of soul care, focusing on the mind, will and emotions as the seat of malady. So in integrating her Christian beliefs with sound psychological principles, Sheryl helps her client uncover beliefs that drive their behavior… because it’s the belief–which is often a lie or toxic conclusion that was accomplished by the harm done to them within relationship–that holds all the power; dispel the belief… dismantle the behavior. This is where Sheryl’s passions lay… to help people overcome beliefs and behaviors that are standing in the way of healing… from walking in freedom… and from being released into a purpose-filled life.
She is skilled in working with life struggles such as anxiety, depression, addiction, codependency, divorce, abuse, emotional trauma and spiritual shaming.
