License Status
Licensed Staff – Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT)s and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC)s are licensed by the state of California to do individual, couples, and family therapy. MFT’s focus on relationship issues while LPCC’s focus on individual therapy. There is a great deal of overlap in their services and training. Both have a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family therapy or Psychology, plus 3000 hours of therapeutic work experience supervised by a licensed practitioner. They have also taken and passed the state-mandated license exams and background checks and are expected to live up to a high ethical and legal standard of conduct for the profession.
Associates – Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT)s and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC)s have completed their master’s degrees in a counseling field and are currently working on the 3000 hours of supervised therapy experience needed for licensure. They are supervised by a Clinical Supervisor on site.
Marriage and Family Therapist Trainees and Clinical Counselor Trainees are in the process of earning their master’s degrees in a counseling field and are participating in supervised field experience through their universities. They are supervised both by their university and the clinical supervisor on site. They are supervised weekly by Mike Beckner, Paige & Greg at the Community Counseling Center of Elk Grove.
